Lip reading, also known as lipreading or speechreading, is a technique of understanding speech by visually interpreting the movements of the lips, face and tongue when normal sound is not available. It relies also on information provided by the context, knowledge of the language, and any residual hearing. Although ostensibly used by deaf and hard-of-hearing people, most people with normal.

Subvocalization and lip reading; not reading fast enough. Reading too fast. No outlining (for preview and use during reading or review). No review as one reads by having each sentence repeated. Being a passive rather than active reader; failing to ask a question and look for an answer as you read each sentence.   A number of written systems for representing manual languages have been developed, and dictionaries of signs have been compiled. Often sign language is taught along with speechreading (see lip reading) and with a manual alphabet, i.e., a method of forming the letters of the alphabet by fixed positions of the fingers in the air.

There is huge variety to ensure every reader finds books they will enjoy and can contain inside cover notes to support children in their reading. Help with children's reading development also available at. The books are finely levelled, making it easy to match every child to the right book. When acoustic information about speech is degraded, either by noise or by hearing impairment, being able to see a speaker’s articulatory movements as well as hear them significantly increases speech. The goal of this method is to incorporate lip-reading, speech, and Sign language so that a child can communicate effectively in almost any setting.

Children taught using this method are given an opportunity to develop their voice as much as possible, as well as allowed to use the more natural, manual/visual way of communicating. Notwithstanding that, the book itself is too wordy and unwieldy to use as a reference book.

The only saving grace and the reason for two stars rather than one is that it gave me, on occasion, a useful and insightful definition of the role of the brain and eyes in lipreadingReviews: 7.
